SIS Case Study Problems and Goals
Freedom Mortgage hosts several workloads with Amazon Web Services in multiple regions and availability zones. Additionally, several internal applications are hosted within the Freedom Mortgage Datacenters using VMware vSphere and additional non‐Linux unix operating systems. At that time, connectivity between AWS and Freedom Mortgage for on premise workloads was provided by secure VPN tunnels utilizing AWS Direct connect for private workloads and direct Internet connectivity for public facing workloads but additional resiliency and performance requirements were outlined.
Additionally, new requirements for critical workloads in the Freedom Mortgage Datacenter required changes in their current Disaster Recovery strategy. These new, aggressive, RTO and RPO requirements, as well as the increasing hybrid cloud communication requirements, brought Freedom Mortgage to SIS for a solution.
Case Study Solution
SIS worked with Freedom Mortgage to deploy a Disaster Recovery solution based on Replication, Backup and Recovery. To meet RTO requirements for critical workloads the solution required Freedom Mortgage to replicate on premise datacenter workloads to the SIS Chicago datacenter. Less mission critical workloads with a higher RTO utilized and additional cost‐effective solutions for off‐site backups and recovery to the SIS Chicago datacenter. Additionally, while mission critical workloads were already replicated off‐site, SAN replication technologies were used to ensure data retention requirements were met. SIS also worked with Freedom Mortgage to deploy an AWS Direct Connect into the production Freedom Mortgage environment within the SIS Chicago datacenter. The AWS Direct Connect was also expanded into the Freedom Mortgage datacenter via private WAN. This new connectivity allowed freedom to continue to scale their hybrid cloud usage with their growing business.
Realized Improvements
Freedom management has been pleased with the results and budget for the improved Disaster Recovery RTO and RPO
